At Pocono Alpacas, our philosophy regarding Herd Sire quality criteria have changed over our twelve+ years of breeding experience. Since we actually take our own fiber, all the way from shearing to market, we believe that; 1st) fineness, 2nd) lack of coarser fiber, 3rd) density, are the correct order of criteria for fleece production and hence our breeding program. The alpacas that we select for stud service have certainly competed, especially as adults, but more importantly, they demonstrate the above referenced order of qualities.
